Dental bonding is a tried and true procedure for treating oral health issues and improving smiles. Our very own Dr. Rahimi, ranked as one of America’s top dentists, helps repair the smiles of Calabasas residents with dental bonding, and we’ve put together a list of commonly asked dental bonding questions to help you learn more about this procedure.
Dental bonding is used to correct a variety of oral health problems. For example, it’s used to repair decayed, chipped, or cracked teeth. It’s also used to protect tooth roots that may become exposed when gums start receding.
In addition to treating oral health problems, it has cosmetic applications. Dental bonding can improve the appearance of discolored teeth, close spaces between teeth, and change the shape of teeth.
One benefit of dental bonding is that it doesn’t require significant preparation, and anesthesia is usually not required. Anesthesia is only used when bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth, the tooth needs to be drilled, or you’re repairing an area near a tooth’s nerve.
To begin the procedure, we’ll roughen the surface of the tooth and apply a conditioning liquid to help the bonding material adhere to its surface. Following this, we’ll apply a putty-like, tooth-colored resin and mold it to its intended shape on the tooth. We’ll then use a light or laser to harden the material, and Dr. Rahimi will continue trimming and shaping it. He’ll polish it to match the shine of your natural teeth, and this process should only take about 30-60 minutes per tooth to complete.
Dental bonding is one of the cheapest and easiest cosmetic dental procedures. It doesn’t require any tooth coverings to be manufactured in a lab, and usually, the bonding procedure can be completed during one appointment.
Dental bonding doesn’t require any special ongoing treatment, and as long as you maintain good oral hygiene practices, the bonding material can last between 3 to 10 years. If we notice anything needs to be touched up or replaced, we’ll let you know during your routine cleanings.
If you’re a Calabasas resident who is unhappy with your smile, please give us call. Our expert team would be more than happy to answer any of your questions about dental bonding or cosmetic dentistry.
